It is a political and economic confederation based on the needs to protect and project economic and political power of the resurgent economies of South East Asia, such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Multiculturalism can also form a strong glue to bind together the people of ASEAN. Though it will be a long a slow process, a multicultural ASEAN society would be far more homogeneous than it is today, thereby enabling pe ace and prosperity in the region more consistently.
